Broad rather than deep drinks range, with a few highlights – Stortebeker is always a welcome sight in the North of Germany.

Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Early 20th century building with many alterations but with grand frontage and chandeliers offsetting an otherwise warm, knockabout pub.

❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good value for money overall.

Description:
Dating from 1903, originally constructed for a restaurant of the same name, now not simply Schwerin’s best venue but best by a clear distance. The small oasis of nightlife that is Ziegenmarkt appears to almost be an optical illusion, transplanted from a major city, after you’ve walked through Schwerin’s streets which are largely quiet and empty by 9pm.

The premises have seen a century of upheaval to the point where it’s surprising much is left of it.

What you’ll find however is a tasteful, warmly lit and cosy late bar which is a really canny operation, managing to be at once an intimate, possibly slightly feminine late bar, with its grand windows and chandeliers, and also a lively, social, casual and buzzy hangout spot geared up to keep the party going until the wee hours, which on Friday’s and Saturday are listed as being 2.30am.

Not content with that, it also offers food without being in the least bit foodie, with sensible fodder on offer to soak up the drinks.

It is the answer to so many questions, and Schwerin unfortunately does pose quite a lot of those, making it nothing short of a cult venue, almost approaching the likes of Café Atlantik in Freiburg.

If you don’t end up here, then firstly – how? – and secondly, where else did you find?
