| Description | A genuine Tudor building, a partly scorched survivor of the Great Fire of Wymondham in 1615. The scene on approach with adjacent church, memorial to Kitt’s Rebellion and close proximity to Wymondham Abbey is a beautiful snapshot of genteel Olde England. The interior retains a good degree of character but not without alteration as CAMRA Heritage explains: “The front door leads into a passage and at the rear is the distinct layout of a room split in two by a wooden partition forming settle seating and the tiny snug with a red quarry floor has an inglenook fireplace. There would have been hundreds of these snugs throughout England but the opening-up of the vast majority of them to create one large room makes the Green Dragon snug a remarkable survivor. Here the partition survives to the left and right but the central section which reached the ceiling was ripped out in 1993.“ In the colder months the cosy interior and hearth and its black beams create a historic yet homely-feel that draws you in to spending more time there. If you are in the area this is a must-visit pub. (Added August 2024) |
