Choice/
Quality of Drinks
|
⭐⭐⭐⭐
A very standard Dublin selection of Guinness plus other corporate offerings. The Guinness however, is rarely better than here, and at a more affordable price than in the centre. |
Style/
Décor
|
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Timewarp, with weathered wooden fittings. Characterful and beautiful, with scenes deserving of portraiture. Truly authentic bar, with the restaurant section not far behind. |
Atmosphere/
Character
|
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Brooding and evocative while still having a friendly neighbourhood crowd. Less touristy due to its location and near universally adored. |
Amenities/
Events
|
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Food, limited standing outdoors, some community events. |
Value For Money
|
⭐⭐⭐⭐
If anything in Dublin is good value for money, a sub 5.50 euro pint of Guinness is probably it. |
Description
|
Set by Glasnevin cemetery, The Gravediggers aka John Kavanagh’s (and vice versa) is a masterpiece of historical, weathered beauty. Aged wood that has absorbed a patina of years past, shades of brown and a space that is both intimate, private and yet social with it. Spending time here is like stepping into a painting, the wash of colour and calm on a quiet afternoon as beguiling as its buzzy evening rhythm. Interesting throwback features like wooden screens and partitions, leaning posts. Adored by the locals who know they live near one of the best pubs in Europe.
