Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Bass in prime condition and the regional classic Three Tuns are the cask highlights, which do qualify as genuine highlights anywhere. Otherwise unexciting mainstream keg beer and back bar options. The throwback M&B mild is available on keg, a Midlands staple.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Compact pub with L-shaped room, fireplace opposite the bar. Warmly lit with crimson painted fittings. Sports trophies and fox themed nik naks.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️
Homely, warm and cosy, but a slight feeling of intrusion on our visit suggested a certain cliqueyness or unfamiliarity with different faces. If you can navigate that it’s a very pleasant place to sit for a drink.
Amenities/
Events
❤️❤️❤️
Darts, games machine, fireplace, snacks
Value For Money❤️❤️❤️❤️
Decent value overall.
DescriptionFamily-run freehouse set in Coleham, on the periphery of the city centre, but with a very local feel. Not a pub where the tourist crowd in Wyle Cop would naturally gravitate too. The pub is a bit of a throwback, in a good way, with a drinking and social focus, warm and comfortable interior, décor taking more than a dollop of inspiration from the pub name. A fireplace in the centre of the room adds to the feeling of homely comfort. Bass on cask, and among the finest we’ve tasted in years, alongside regional classics like Three Tuns makes this a very appealing option. The only drawback on our view was staff who, while friendly, held world views veering towards cranky (government control, keep cash stuffed in mattresses etc), meaning you may have some conversational obstacles to navigate. You were warned.
