Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A long bar with a pleasing wealth of options beyond the typical Irish classics including some European beers and a few Irish craft too from independent brewers. The fridge selection is decent enough, so while it isn’t Abbot’s or Bierhaus, we would say for a venue of its type, they’ve been paying attention. Whisky selection also pretty strong.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Colourful mosaic frontage that is very attractive. An open plan venue, with seating and fireplace to the front opposite a long bar to the left that leads to a performance area to the rear.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Although many of the Irish pub raw materials are in place, something about the open plan nature of the place means it loses the intimacy of other pubs. This is a deliberate choice though and you’re in what is very much a performance venue. Lively and you’ll still find a cast of regulars at their posts to the left as you enter.

Live music, fireplace, snacks, crosswords (they photocopy crosswords for customers to idle away the time with)

DescriptionIn a building dating from 1853, the most recent major changes in décor and ownership occurred around the mid-90s, and the pub since has taken on a ‘performance venue’ format, a hybrid of pub and place to see live music and other cultural events. As a result, despite many typical pub trappings (including photocopying crosswords for punters!) the Corner House feels a little less like a place to sit down for a quiet pint, and a lot more like where to drag a few friends to have a laugh and listen to some performers.

Fun and gregarious, a place that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Although perhaps not hitting the same heights as nearby, a lot depends on the act and the vibe on any given night in places like these. What was can say is The Corner House this adds a diversity and versatility to Cork’s nightlife and is well worth recommending.
