5 cask ales and a fairly mediocre macro keg selection. Standard back bar options.

Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The reason to visit. Fine Medieval building. Inside, atmospheric hallway, multi-roomed with low, blackened beams, leaded hatched windows, off-centre and gloomy, candles and lamps. Fireplace.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oozing plenty of character through the historic building, the atmosphere is slightly dampened by the crap selection of pop music on the radio, but improves during folk club performances and when it gets busier.

Folk performances, meals, hotel, outdoor seating.

❤️❤️
A little higher than average for the area.
Description
Enough outside the city centre to be clear of the tourist crowds, this place strikes a nice balance between locals and visitors. A historic 17th century building with Georgian era refit. An atmospheric entrance way, leads to a series of rooms with the bar near the back. Intact and suitably Olde Worlde with inglenook fireplace, beams and sympathetic decoration. Some bits and pieces, such as the radio selection slightly drag it down, and it is pretty expensive too, but it’s a destination pub – overall it is well worth a look. Keep a look out for the folk club who gather here. (added March 2022)
