| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ The focus is 4-5 cask ales on rotation with an emphasis on regional and local independent brewers. A well stocked but more familiar back bar of alternatives. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ A corner pub with diminutive frontage, enter to find an immediately appealing, warm-hued space with traditional furnishings, heritage signage and artwork on the walls and a long bar leading to the kitchen door at the rear. There is a lounge room opposite as part of the double facing bar. Nothing flashy, yet so well curated. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Friendly, comfortable, cosy and welcoming with a true community feel, the kind of pub that should be everywhere but for whatever reason, just isn’t. Rare. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Food, snacks, outdoor seating, community events, books, board games, TV |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Good value for food and drinks overall considering what’s on offer. |
| Description | Rarely do pubs make such an endearing and lasting first impression, but that was the case on our first visit here in 2024. A corner pub with diminutive frontage, enter to find an immediately appealing lounge space with traditional furnishings, heritage signage and artwork on the walls and a long bar leading to the kitchen door at the rear. There is a lounge room opposite as part of the double facing bar. The welcome is friendly and the hospitality as good as if you had been visiting as a regular for years, a great tribute to the efforts and attitude of the staff. A Free House, with a range of regional and local cask ales the highlight, while a creative kitchen knocks out dishes that you wouldn’t often find on restaurant menus in England, let alone pubs. These are designed to be hearty, often one-pot affairs, allowing you to get good portions at a fair price, with the options ever changing – vegetarians, vegans and those seeking gluten free options are all catered for, although as you’d expect, some dishes are ‘gone when they’re gone’. Sat among comfortable seating, it’s clear the place has it, the genius loci that makes us keep exploring and keep loving pubs. There is plenty else to add – the community events, books, games, TV etc, but it is best to emphasise the welcome, the comfort, the good food and ales, the good value option and the knowledge that yes, pubs really can still be this good.
