Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A clearly superior range of drinks for the town. 5 farmhouse ciders and good keg beers including some from independent breweries, a strong (for England) selection of Belgian beers in the fridge. Several real ales.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A pleasant loungey interior, open plan with bar opposite the entrance. Local’s corner to the left and candlelit bench seating to the right. Further room and patio to the rear. Carpeted and cosy with candlelit tables. Beer ephemera on the walls alongside more traditional pub features.

Value For Money❤️❤️❤️
Although not cheap, it’s decent value considering the quality of options.
DescriptionA terrific backstreet pub set in a tall building with grand frontage, named after a famous seafarer, whose name adorns a far more well-known Penzance pub.

Here, the appeal of this Benbow is more subtle, a combination of wise choices that combine to an impressive whole.

With excellent drinks options as a starting point, you can be enjoying traditional ales and farmhouse ciders, UK craft from the likes of Burning Sky or the fridge full of Belgian beers, this would turn many heads all of itself.

However, the attention paid to the environment inside and the sense of welcome and comfort plays an equally important role. Candlelit tables, fireplace and carpet gives it a cosy feel, somewhere you’d want to stay for a long time (not easy on Sunday when it closes at 7pm).

Pub games, occasional live music and events and patio in summer make this an all-rounder you can keep on coming back to any time of year.

For us, it’s central Shrewsbury’s finest pub.
