Description:
Let’s get the term “stalwart” in nice and early. Strohhalm is on Oldenburg’s “party street” Wallstrasse, if that’s not too over-the-top sounding for a city without much else than the odd corner pub and the brewery by the canal.
Strohhalm has a Belgian market place café type appearance, layout and overall feel and its 7 day a week opening makes it the easier answer to any question about where to go.
The business is pitched at being an all-rounder, which is something it manages effectively. From daytime Volkscafé to early morning night spot and everything in between, it is kitted out to provide. So, while it may not excel in certain specific areas, you have to commend it for delivering for the city.
Moving west from Bremen, you’re edging towards Dusseldorf sphere of influence so will find Diebels Alt on draft – as well as the more typical North German staples. The back bar is broad and able to cope with any orders that aren’t too specialist.
Even without our recommendation it’s likely you’ll end up here when seeking out a convenient drinking hole in the city centre.
