Venue Type: Evening Bar / Market Town Tavern
Year of Inscription: 2025
EBG Rating: 8.3/10
Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Broad and versatile menu covering many bases. We’d recommend skipping ordering cocktails on very busy nights as they are too rushed off their feet to do even simple cocktails justice, otherwise plenty of options.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful interior in a Hanseatic era brick gothic townhouse. Exposed brickwork, tasteful lighting across three floors. Focal point is the downstairs and upstairs bars with inbuilt niches.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Vibrant town centre late night trade with a mixture of day-trippers and locals. A provincial interpretation on cosmopolitan, but a nice one.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Food, snacks, limited outdoor seating, occasional live events, private hire.
Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️
Typical central bar type rates. Not a rip-off nor particularly cheap.
Description:
Historic market towns that have expanded to become cities are often tricky places to find good nightlife.
September does a lot of heavy lifting for a city without many good pubs to be found in the centre.
Straddling restaurant to nightclub to everything a bar can be in between, it does so with a great deal of panache, and despite bar staff straining at the seams to keep everything working.
A characterful venue due to being set in historic brick gothic premises in the utterly stunning and beautiful centre of Lüneburg. Inside you’ll find exposed brick, tasteful lighting and three floors.
The ground floor bar is a focal point with in-built niches, but on busy nights the atmosphere spreads throughout the building.
Having to serve food, make cocktails and deliver this across a sprawling venue is a tough ask and one the staff attend to with the minimum fuss.
The popularity of the place begs the question, what’s Lüneburg’s problem? Why aren’t there a few more good places like this?
