Description:
Rauchfang’s name (the Chimney) is a pretty clear indication of what to expect here at this Raucherkneipe, a pub where smoking is permitted. Open since 1977.

One might expect a grizzled old man’s redoubt, but as you approach, a funky and rather point-makingly large red neon sign lights the way in. Inside, a timewarp pub exemplified by the preserved crown glass windows, a feature of some of the best preserved central European pubs.

Inside, you’ll find a lively crowd, with a range of ages but slanting towards 20s and 30 somethings if anything.

Lamps and fairylights illuminate the gloom, blending with the clouds of cig smoke rather atmospherically. Check the lung damage later.

Set in a peculiar, much altered building, originally a stepped gable edifice from the 15th century, but with alterations to the window and a mock-fachwerk facade added.

Open only 2 days a week but burning the candle on both days until 3am, if you find yourself in Lübeck on a Friday/Saturday needing a late drink, Rauchfang provides.
