Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Drinks selection is pretty good with a broad range of mid-superior mainstream beers and a few specialists too. Competent backbar with a selection typical of the English pub theme.

Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
The interior is satisfactorily pubby without verging into garish facsimile. A wood-fit bar, leaded windows, bench seating, chandeliers in an open plan room with niches. Further space downstairs at busier times.

Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Versatile, so comfortable and easy on quiet afternoons but social too with gossip and jokes. Capable of stepping up the tempo on weekend evenings.

Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Food, snacks, darts, TV, live events.

Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️
High in some areas but one or two surprisingly decent options.

Description:
A legacy of Sweden’s alcohol laws is that their native pub culture was annihilated between 1890-1950. As restrictions loosed something had to fill the void, and the British / Irish theme pub stepped into the breach.

Normally we steer clear of these places abroad, the main reason being that you don’t go all this way just to sit in a theme pub dedicated to another culture. But in Sweden’s case the fact is these pubs are part of their culture and so it makes sense to note some superior examples.

Pickwick Pub’s strength is that it has no obvious weaknesses. The drinks selection is pretty good with a broad range of mid-superior mainstream beers and a few specialists too. The interior is satisfactorily pubby without verging into garish facsimile. A wood-fit bar, leaded windows, bench seating, chandeliers give it a familiar appearance rather than the drag act type embarrassment you often find. It’s an all-rounder that accommodates young and old (ergo, a pub) and there are plenty of amenities to keep you occupied – darts, TV, food and games, events nights. It’s difficult to feel too sniffy about this in a land where this is actually required in order to pick up the slack.

Perhaps the late opening and early closing on Weekdays are not ideal, but Friday and Saturday evenings are late, and they open 1pm on Saturdays.

While we’re not going to order you to come here, it’s a useful option to have up your sleeve and might just surprise you.
