Location: Torsgatan 34, 113 62 Stockholm
Venue Type: Theme Bar / Eccentric
Year of Inscription: 2026
EBG Rating: 8.3/10
Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️
A fairly basic repertoire of beers on tap, but a reasonable bottle selection. Wines are ok (a tiny bit better than you’d think) and they extend to the usual mixers and cocktails – particularly Mezcal based. It does the job.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mind-melting heavy laden décor themed around Christmas and the Day of the Dead. 365 days a year. It’s a straight forward one room bar with an inverted L shape otherwise, with the decoration turbo-boosting things.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Quite unbelievable décor helps keep things interesting any time of day or night, but visit on evenings for the real atmosphere to be savoured. Despite the flashiness of the appearance it’s a down-to-earth no airs and graces place.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️
Food, snacks.
Value For Money:
❤️❤️❤️
No more or less than typical for the district.
Description:
Describeds a Cajun bistro, this bar is a classic example of the invisible border that exists between bar and eatery in Sweden. The law stipulates all bars must serve hot food.
Unacquainted with this fact, you may find some recommendations peculiar, and this place is nothing if not peculiar.
Known in Sweden as a ‘Sunkhak’ these such venues are a cross between dive bars and greasy spoons.
To get the best out of Peppar, visit in the evenings – they open after midnight 5 nights a week. By this point most traces of cooking have vanished.
On entry you will be hit by a frankly bizarre ensemble of extremely heavy-laden Christmas Décor with some Mexican Día de los Muertos sprinkled in there, vying for attention.
I’m not sure I can really oversell this to you. It is eye-poppingly over the top.
That may have either piqued your interest or got you backtracking out of this place – for those still interested, you’ll find a down to earth operation here – friendly and seemingly unconcerned with the entire world outside. Bars like that are sometimes brilliant, and this one at its best, caught on the right night can definitely come close to that.
