Description:
Mässingshornet is a rare thing in a Swedish provincial city – a late bar in a residential neighbourhood. Kirseberg is fortunate. Pretty easy to reach on public transport or on foot from the city centre, opening 7 days a week til late may help provide options and flexibility for nightlife on the often troubling Sundays and Mondays in Protestant countries.

Like (nearly) all Swedish bars, it must also operate as a restaurant serving hot food, but thankfully that doesn’t dominate and later on barely even features – the options too are very much tilted towards pub fare.

Their Raison d’être is live music, especially Jazz and Blues but with a variety on offer, while they also host stand-up shows, quizzes and other events to pull in a crowd.

Completely tourist-free and an experience of authenticity – by locals, for locals. Which is not to say it’s at all cliquey or unfriendly, not a bit of it. We were warmly welcomed and it’s the kind of venue where you get the impression that’s standard. Their excellent reviews attest to it.

One of the best venues in the city, therefore well worth noting and taking the slight excursion to.
