Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️
Marston’s drink range which means traditional real ales, but of a mainstream nature. Limited back bar options.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A multi-room pub with tiny bar, snug with high backed settles and fireplace, rear room and lounge, each of which has its own particular feel. Characterful but slightly marred through a combination of less than tasteful additions and Marston’s being asleep at the wheel on much of their pub estate.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Peak time to visit is on the locally famous live music evenings. At other times a local ‘market town tavern’ type feel with local gossip and banter. The bar area can feel like somewhat of an intrusion at times.
Amenities/

Live music, outdoor seating, snacks, TV
Value For Money❤️❤️
Typical city centre prices + the usual Marston’s pubco percentage on top.
DescriptionLoggerheads’ peculiar name refers to the arms of Shrewsbury’s crest and dates back an impressively long way, to the 18th century, a boom period in the city’s history.

A multi-room pub with tiny bar, snug with high backed settles and fireplace, rear room and lounge, each of which has its own particular feel. The bar room is very local, and there may be a slight sense of intrusion at busier times.

The décor has not faithfully kept to the sense of history, only present in bits and pieces, so rather than being a showstopper in recent years, as Loggerheads could be, it is more of a curio. Part of the issue here is the Marston’s ownership, a drag factor on a pub that’s still good, but has considerable potential.

To experience the pub at peak time visit on live music nights where the atmosphere is worth savouring. (Added February 2025)
