Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lagers, along with O/O from Gothenburg have been imported from Franconia. It’s hog’s heaven as you select from Rauchbier, Ungespundet lager and the like. For alternatives, cocktails and mixers from a competent back bar.

Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Boarded outdoor terrace and some upturned drums to congregate out-front. Again, seasonally this can be dead or quite busy, depending. Inside, a curious, quirky and yes, atypical venue with glass-roofed atrium, a colourful bar area with eccentric décor, open kitchen to the right, a dance floor, darts room to the left, and further lounge. This is decorated with plenty of greenery – fake and real.

Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A curious hybrid, but lively with a young crowd, anything from darts, dining, clubbing, outdor hangouts and specialist beer savouring at the same venue.

Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Food, snacks, darts, Outdoor seating, Live events, club nights.

Value For Money:
❤️
Beers do not come cheap and apart from the house lager, are up near the top of the horror stories people report back from Sweden about. Entry fee for the venue after 8pm as it becomes a ‘club’ is pitched at a price that feels both arrogant and ludicrous.

Description:
Describing itself as an atypical beer bar, that is something of an understatement.

Our here in Ringön district, north of the city centre, the old marinas and warehouses have been slowly converted into bars, clubs and brewery taprooms. Outside of summer where there is more light and activity, there is not much sign of vibrance out on the street, as you exit the tram and along a warren of escarpments before finally being chucked out onto a long straight road that intersects the district. Just before half-way along, take a right turn to find Ivans on the corner of the next street down.

You’ll find a boarded outdoor area and some upturned drums to congregate out-front. Again, seasonally this can be dead or quite busy, depending.

After 8pm the bar becomes a club for entry – paid entry – DO NOT OVERLOOK THIS FACT – and your outlay can suddenly double.

Legally they are required to serve food leaving the bizarre situation where you can be watching people dancing to the DJ in the centre of the room (an urbane electronic music sound track) while in your peripheral vision a chef is working in the open kitchen.

Want to go even more atypical? Well, it is a Pilsnerbar, and their lagers, along with O/O from Gothenburg have been imported from Franconia. It’s hog’s heaven as you select from Rauchbier, Ungespundet lager and the like, to be enjoyed in a bloomin’ club. Truly crazy.

It must be said, even in a city contacting the bar 3 Sma Rum, the beers do not come cheap and are up near the top of the horror stories people report back from Sweden about. This makes it all the more important you turn up before it changes to its club evenings and starts charging for entry.

Prices aside, it’s a very cool, quirky, extremely distinctive space that any city in Europe would be pleased to have in its roster.
