Fair value for food and drink considering the location, due to their target market.
Description:
Regensburg’s Hinterhaus has long occupied the status of ‘Cult Kneipe’ due to its live music and offerings aimed at a younger audience. Each wave of students pass through here, along with its stalwarts.
For 35+ years Hinterhaus has been part of a clutch of central bars that keep the party going into the late hours.
The venue itself feels every inch of its age, though in a good way. Lived-in and dimly lit, you’ll find a characterful but surprisingly spacious hangout located at the end of an alleyway (Hinterhaus meaning rear building). This adds an extra sense of clandestine fun to proceedings.
The wares are broad, nothing too flashy (although they sometimes stock some more unusual beers), and their food is self-proclaimed ‘takeaway fodder’ to order when drunk after midnight, so be warned! As a fixture of the city, a pub that can become very lively and atmospheric, it is well worth trying, but visit in the later evening to see it at its best.
