Corner kneipe with parasols out front. Enter to find an open plan pub with nice old bar and niches around it, pool table and dart board the other side of the room. The stained glass windows are a surprisingly eye-catching feature too.

Truly local, you’re miles away from the nearest tourist, but the atmosphere in its battered, uncomplicated way is friendly and straight-forward. It’s somewhere to let your hair down. A slight middle-agedy-ness is offset by its games and music schedule which keeps youngsters interest too.

Description:
Bremen’s West-End, and the District of Walle is not the hotbed of nightlife you’ll find around Steintor and the Viertel in general, but there are a few good pubs to be found around here and all of them are easy to reach, up and down the tram line that runs parallel to the river.

Heroes is a classic working class German kneipe, opening from early evening onwards for after-working socialising.

Darts, pool, jukebox, smoking permitted (like most in Bremen, to be honest) and occasional live music shows the place as a punky, down-to-earth hangout with the typical ensemble of middle-aged rockers, youngsters and crusties.

Service is friendly, drinks are basic but very cheap, the lowest we found in our time there and the décor and fittings have some surprising flourishes like the niches around the bar area but in particular the stained glass windows which they appear to have inherited.

Although not a venue that is going to delight all, that’s rather missing the point. Of its style it performs very well.
