| Description | The ‘Green Fairy’ awning out the front stands out in Aachen’s altstadt where you are more expecting to see Gothic script and a Wirtshaus than an Absinth bar, but as it turns out, this is one of the cities most distinctive venues. Inspired by the tales of HP Lovecraft, the interior – if a tinge too ‘theme bar’ does a good job of placing you in the environment of a Victorian study. The waiter will approach and guide you to an absinth of your choosing. Generally they slide towards tasting more like Pastis or more like bitter wormwood. The water decanter will be set up, and you are left enjoying the drink in a rather opulent, hedonistic and ever so slightly macabre scene. Just as they intended then! Well, the execution is not flawless but it’s still very good, and we can comfortably recommend a visit. (Added June 2024) |
