Description:
Bamberg’s extraordinary array of breweries and beer halls somewhat obscures the fact it has a handsome selection of evening bars. The likes of Pizzini, Catwheezle’s Castle & Rothenschild are every bit as much worth visiting. If you go too heavy early on in the day you’ll miss your chance to enjoy these places. Don’t think they are slouches when it comes to the quality of drinks either. Galerie am Stephansberg has as a regular beer a kellerbier served on gravity from the wooden barrel from Brauerei Sauer. Offering a younger crowd (in Bamberg this means under 50), and a kind of relaxed, bohemian informal take on a traditional pub. This is not a pub where you have to worry about being seated at a table or obliged to order food. It’s more a place where you grab a board game or ask for a go on the piano. It’s also a place you’ll find locals. The famous beer halls tend to attract day trippers but with a lower profile, this bar is happy doing business with Bamberg’s residents and anyone intrepid enough to find it – you can now add yourself to that list.
