Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Slightly improved and above-average beer offering (hello Stortebecker) and range of mixers and cocktails to peruse.

Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Some quirky features, not least the bar area with its low-slung counter and wood-fit back bar, but also a characterful interior with curved windows and fittings including lamp lights.

A broader catchment than the typical St Pauli bar on account of its less rough and ready feel. A friendly, atmospheric hangout that is effective at any time of day.

Description:
At the heart of Sternschanze, a visit to Fritz Bauch feels really like its the lynchpin of nightlife in the neighbourhood.

It’s a charming venue with some quirky features, not least the bar area with its low-slung counter and wood-fit back bar, but also a characterful interior with curved windows and fittings including lamp lights.

It’s actually a quite stylish venue, something overlooked in the usual plethora of reviews about it being dark and smokey. This is not like a typical St Pauli or Reeperbahn pub, there is a broader catchment of people and more style to be enjoyed her than the average.

That is also reflected in a slightly improved beer offering and range of mixers and cocktails to peruse, a business aiming to provide more of an all-rounder feel but still with its distinct identity intact.

Be warned, like most bars around here’s it’s cash-only and smoking is permitted.

Those typical concerns aside, we can firmly recommend. (Added September 2025)
