Choice/Quality of Drinks:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Weltenburger beers! You can set aside the Polish lager selection unless you’re desperate for some holiday nostalgia, Weltenburger is the real deal (even if these days they were sold off to Schneider to avoid closure under a pile of debt). Nothing in the pub is especially cheap, but a beer like Asam Bock doesn’t come about every day. Look out for some occasional Czech beers available too.
Style/Décor:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Gaststätte style interior with a hint of Pomeranian/Prussian to it. Seafaring is namechecked in the title of course, but its woodstrip interior, blue and white table cloths and almost soothingly obvious nautical decorations.
Atmosphere/Character:
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Characterful interior and a timeless atmosphere, but the social scene is intermittent – it comes, it goes, and I’d have to spend more time here to suss out if there’s a regular crowd or not.
Amenities/Events:
❤️❤️❤️
Food, snacks.
Value For Money:
❤️❤️
Higher than it ought to be in a couple of places. More democratic range of pricing would be fairer.
Description:
Something of a throwback pub and a rare find in Värnhem district, you’ll encounter a Gaststätte style interior with a hint of Pomeranian/Prussian to it. Seafaring is namechecked in the title of course, but its wood-strip interior, blue and white table cloths, rope handrails and almost soothingly obvious nautical decorations cap off a pub that has seen decades of changing fashions and decided against hopping on any bandwagon.
This pub does have one interesting trick up its sleeve – Weltenburger beers!
Opening mid-afternoon until late, Fregatten is as likely to host an inundation of youngsters seeking an evening drink as it is an elderly couple going for dinner. The rhythms change as the day progresses.
Slightly more democratic pricing would earn it a higher review, but there’s plenty still to enjoy, and it also helps break up any journey between the Eastern districts and city centre.
