| Description | With a connection to the local church, it was only in 2012 that Chequers began opening on Sundays, and that traditional spirit appears to be behind its interior, largely unaltered since a 1962 refit. A 16th century stone cottage with some extensions added, the core of the pub is a series of small lounge rooms around a central bar. The low beams, fireplaces and traditional tables place you in an idyllic, supremely cosy rural setting. With a range of Yorkshire ales on cask, bookshelf with plenty of local interest, dog friendly approach, terrace for summer days, and straight talking welcome from the staff, there is a quintessentially Yorkshire feel to the place. A throwback but one that is still busy and beloved. |
