| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️ A café bar range of dependable, but mainstream options. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Beautiful café with wood panelling and high ceilings, decorated with retro magazine covers and pale green. Each table is lamp lit and there are some bench seats on the periphery which are the most comfortable. A 70s era mosaic floor is another artistic standout. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ The preserved fittings and prevailing sense of institution give it a natural character quiet or busy, in any weather or time of year. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️ Upstairs restaurant food can be taken town to eat, newspapers, snacks, outdoor seating. |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️ Typical city centre prices. |
| Description | Interview remains while the appearance of the city centre changes around it. The terrace now affords a rather drab view of a shopping centre, but inside, you can step back into a space belonging to decades past. Classical wood panels, high ceiling and lamp light hints at a typical Viennese style cafe, but this is matched by a more 1970s aesthetic of retro magazine covers, lime green paint job, and stylish mosaic floor. The end effect, while unusual gives the place the sense of history, fixture and institution. Service is friendly, you can bring down boxes of Persian food from the upstairs restaurant, and enjoy the social scene around you. If it ever closes it will be a hammer blow to the city’s cultural legacy. (Added January 2025) |
