When in France, Belgium or the hinterland of Germania, the prospect of a characterful corner café to set down and enjoy a decent beer in surroundings that tell a bit of history is at the forefront of our mind. Many towns and cities still have these, and this is certainly Luxembourg’s closest example. An L shaped seating area with carefully curated bench niches by the windows decorated with retro signage and a rich patina of yellows and reds offers that kind of environment effectively. A decent range of beers and back bar, with bistro fare for food represents a versatility – it isn’t simply a boozer. However, nor does it slide into mediocrity. The atmosphere is social and vibrant, the sense of fixture and institution pervades and being part of that, even for a wee while elevates the experience of being in Luxembourg City’s upper town.
