Description:
Nicknamed “By the Beach” after a famous overflow from the Kössein river caused the water level to rise up to customers ankles. The name holds over a century later. Adjoined to Brauerei Nothaft, operating as a de facto brewery tap, although the brewery itself can be visited for offsales. A historic venue in itself, the brewery overshadows its pub and adds character before you’ve even stepped through the door.

A German brewpub – no doubt certain stereotypes are already being spooled in your head, but this proves to be another surprise in a region full of them.

Far from the typical high ceilinged grand Wirtshaus with huge chunky tables, high ceilings and candelabras, this is a dinky little pub with a genteel feel to it, but also an informality. It’s a living room where you can go for a drink and socialise, bring a dog if you like, much more casual.

It does serve food and offers a weekly roster of special activities, but those are complimentary rather than the main event.

It is a must-visit venue in Marktredwitz.
