| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A compact but superior and well kept range of ales. Adnam’s focus, with Theakston Old Peculier plus some guests. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Rustic farmhouse pub with original settles, low-beamed ceiling with creaking doors and off-centre fittings. One small and cosy bar area with two adjoining rooms more for dining, but still fine at certain times for a drink. Both of those rooms are similarly interesting. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A slice of country life in the city, this really does feel like a country pub teleported into near the city centre, just far off the beaten path enough to keep it the way it is. Preserved, authentic and with a certain hush and reverence about it. Social scene feels a little hemmed in by the entrance and dining areas. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️ Meals, limited outdoor seating, snacks |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️ A little more expensive for the area. |
| Description | A legendary historic pub of national importance, this converted farmhouse has centuries of recorded use as a pub and preserved features to prove it. A tiny low-ceilinged place with charm, character and a certain special hush about it that creates calm and intimacy. Find one of the off-centre creaky corners to sit – perhaps on one of their original Settles – and recline with a pint and a book. A charming place. (March 2022) |
