Muted warm lighting works well with this combination. A pubby layout with communal seating around the bar, and pretty beer garden to the rear. |

| Description | Craft taprooms can veer into interchangeability and templates to the extent that the prospect of yet another one can cause eyes to glaze over. This is certainly not the case here with Zum Johann where they have carefully curated the interior space to feel pubby and somewhere you could hang out for a while. No cheap seats and stark lighting here, this is a neighbourhood building with wood fittings and patterned tiles which catch the eye on entrance. Don’t overlook a very pretty beer garden to the rear which looks to be delightful in summer. And the beer? Yes, the beer – 18 taps and some superb options that are ever changing, touching on everything from Swiss craft to English imports, with a damn good fridge too. Certainly among the superior options in Basel, not to be missed. |
