| Description | A roadside bar that doesn’t look like much from the outside, although the keen eyed will see the word ‘beer’ appears, but the ‘not looking like much’ ends up being part of its appeal. Truly local, you’re as likely to find a gibbon in here as you are a camera wielding American in boardshorts or Instagrammer boring everyone to tears. What the Balkans lacks in interior decor in their pubs it can often make up for in hospitality, with its music events, food spreads, barbecues and general bonhomie adding hugely to what may otherwise simply be a down to earth multi-tap pub. Oh yes, the beers are pretty good with a nice selection on tap and in the fridge. You can’t help but gradually be won over by its down to earth charms. Is it for everyone? Absolutely not, but that’s never prevented a spot that can be loved by some from being included. (Added April 2023) |
