- The European Bar Guide isn’t a business with full-time employees.
The European Bar Guide is run exclusively by volunteers who invest their own free time. They:
- Research bars online and in person, travelling thousands of miles a year across Europe.
- Capture information, making and storing content for this resource.
- Maintain the accuracy of the content on our website.
- Provide this to you at no cost.
We do this because we like doing this. This is our passion.
- By donating to us you aren’t supplementing any other form of income we receive for our work on this site, instead you are literally keeping this site alive, public and free to all.
By donating you make sure:
- We can at a bare minimum cover our domain & hosting costs.
- That our team can devote more time to research.
- Better research means better site content for you!
- Funding means more time available to explore and share great bars with you. If we remain open you receive better content: more cities, more venues, better maps; a back-pocket resource to keep with you on your travels.
- If the funding is sufficient then to put it bluntly – we can eventually work full-time on this site. The potential of our site is enormous. Imagine an App such as Untappd for Pubs & Bars. We need your help to make this leap.
Why now?
At inception in 2017, The European Bar Guide was a blog masquerading as a resource. I didn’t ask for money, just attention. We opened with a modest 140 bar entries.
Today, in 2025 we now boast 1500+ guide entries and 4300+ venues in total, all of which have to be monitored, with content refreshed and kept up to date.
In short, for all this time I did not want to ask for money for something I felt did not warrant it. But, I firmly believe our site has now become a resource, one that is valuable and important enough to ask you to help us by donating.
What donation are we asking for from you?
Please donate what you think represents the value you receive from our site. One way to look at it would be to compare it with some other subscriptions you may have in place.
We are happy to receive one-off donations, particularly if we have been of use to you in the past 8 years.
We are even happier if you believe, like us, a recurring monthly donation represents good value for what we offer now – more still, what we will go on to share in the future.
