| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Under cultural heritage preservation, a 1969 fit with wooden boards and mirrors. A one room affair with stools fixed to the floor around a U-shaped bar. Bank notes from around the world stapled to the fittings. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ A bar where you can be in conversation with a total stranger almost instantly, there is a sense of bottled lightning to the place that is so rarely found. It isn’t often quiet but there is a calm and character which makes those times enjoyable too. |

| Value For Money | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Fair value, on the cheaper end for old town prices. |
| Description | Among Estonia’s most famous pubs, this simple unchanged boozer has been preserved from its late 60s era fit stemming from the days of Soviet occupation. It is now heritage listed by the city authorities which bodes well for its future. The modernist interior of wood panels, mirrors and stools fixed around a U-shaped bar has a certain academic appeal, but it is the countless good times spent here that really cements its reputation. One of the simplest places in the world to strike up a conversation with a stranger, the bar-top format encourages cross-chat, as do the occasionally gregarious patrons. A good range of people from youngsters to old grizzlies with a certain rosey-cheeked middle aged contingent enjoying the same basic drinks at budget prices. Famous for its herring snacks and spicy concoction ‘Millimallikas’, liqueur, which should be avoided unless you’re feeling reckless. Very few Baltic bars honestly feel like an institution, but this place feels more of an institution than many English pubs, which really underscores how special it is. (Added November 2023) |
