Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Well decorated. Enter up steps to a small bar room with locals, the lounge to the left. Yellow walls from the decades of smoking, skis and sledges pinned to the walls giving it a distinctive character.

Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Highly atmospheric, a man’s drinking den with a mist of smoke, loud informal chat, and a throwback feel to the place, the 1990s and further. This is something you can’t easily access elsewhere in the city.

Really among the cheapest places in the city centre.
DescriptionRecommended purely for local life and among the city centre’s very cheapest half litres of beer, this is a social document, somewhere you can soak up the atmosphere like a sponge.

It’s also difficult, possibly very intimidating a prospect to enter for non-Czech speakers.

V Koutku belongs to the phenomenon of ‘private members pubs’, opened as a reaction to the Czech smoking ban.

By turning pub into club, smoking can continue, but not all is as it was. The clientele are very much the hardcore heavy drinking, heavy smoking remnants of the 1990s scene. Women and young adults are not to be seen as you pass the bar into the lounge.

As this is a private members bar it is entirely at the discretion of the owner if they let you drink or not. Asking politely always helps – Nejsem členem, je možné si dát pivo? It worked for us here (although in other private members bars it simply signalled we shouldn’t be there, and we were refused).

This is a pretty laid back operation – they just want to keep their pub the same way it has been generally – by locals for locals. They won’t mind a few well behaved newcomers that mind their business though. The interior is decorated with skis and sledges, the yellow walls typical of the chain smoking old pubs of the past. Grizzled old guys chat, play cards, watch TV and hang out. A way of life that used to be the norm, but is fast vanishing from the city can still be sampled here. It must be said, this is a really superb Pajzl
