Description:
One of the more curious businesses in the city centre, Ultramarinos Lucas is a legacy from an old grocery store and still is one. How then, is it a bar? Well, Lucas provides tapas in the shape of bread and cold cuts, which expands in the winter months when he can be assured of quality, and an unexpected array of beers and wines to slosh them back with, including Spanish craft labels – fairly rate to find in arch-traditional Seville.

It opens “when I feel like it” which is usually when it’s busier, so the business information online is frustratingly inaccurate. Over 3 days I made around 8 attempts to visit before on the final night passing to find it open.

Facing the street, most customers congregate around the shop front clutching a bottle of beer and a bit of cheese or ham, and the position near the Setas makes it fairly attractive.

What makes the place – aside its mercurial qualities is the charm and willingness of the owner. For its faults it remains an independent family-run business that life upstairs above the shop. You could do worse than put your money in this direction than the corporate chains.
