| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Svijany beers lock out the taps, offering dark, light, non-alco and even their own specially brewed Trumpetska beer. These are kept and poured to certificate standard (if that sort of thing impresses you). A good back bar for alternatives awaits also. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Jazz and blues bar-restaurant fitted with musical instruments in precarious locations. A double bass looms above you at the bar, a skeleton plays piano on the ceiling in the front room. Yes, welcome to the tacky, but wholesome fun.The rooms themselves are warmly lit and personalised. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Naturally atmospheric either on the ground floor or the basement hangout, which is in itself a kind of bunker of its own. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Food, live music, outdoor seating, snacks |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Surprisingly decent value given the operation, location, surroundings, etc. |
| Description | In 2024 U voraře celebrated 20 years of opening. We paid our 1st visit the same year. This is a venue that doesn’t fit any mould. A self-styled ‘legendary’ jazz and blues bar, (reputation acquired in advance, of course) fitted with musical instruments in precarious locations. A double bass looms above you at the bar, a skeleton plays piano on the ceiling in the front room. Yes, welcome to tacky, but wholesome and endearing fun. The rooms themselves are warmly lit, naturally atmospheric either on the ground floor or the basement hangout, which is in itself a kind of bunker of its own. Svijany beer is very common outside Prague, but has only really made modest in-roads into the Gambrinus/Kozel/Pilsner roadshow. Here, they lock out the taps, offering dark, light, non-alco and even their own specially brewed Trumpetska beer. These are kept and poured to certificate standard (if that sort of thing impresses you). Live music is, of course, a must, but they offer a full compliment with a kitchen pumping out meals as well. The atmosphere is therefore a little offkey, like an experimental jazz record, slipping from romantic couples wining and dining to musos and dancers, to basement boozing, shifting sands which never resolve, but are in and of themselves engaging, making you want to try and get under its skin. Worth a look for sure. (Added October 2024) |
