A Pilsner Urquell place which does justice to the beer, very consistent. A typically traditional Czech back bar of alternatives.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Corner entrance leads to a rather unexploited taproom which could be seriously improved, however the main pub room is a joy, at least a typical Czech hospoda with its wood panelled walls, chunky tables and communal seating, decorated with old wireless and radio units on shelves around the room.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️
Sadly let down by an unexploited bar/knajpa area which really could enhance the pub as a whole, while the main dining room is really overly food most of the day until the evening approaches. That said, it is a friendly place with good, efficient service, while the environment is typical and unspoilt, a classic example of the format. The best atmosphere tends to be after dinner, 9pm onwards.

Typically on the mid-high range for operations outside the touristic centre, but good quality.
DescriptionIt has taken us several visits to finally acknowledge U Veverky, a pub that has always wandered there or thereabouts an inclusion. It is a Pilsner Urquell pub, but more of a typical hospoda eatery than the likes of U Jelinku which boasts a vibrant taproom.

As you enter you will be tempted by the prospect of a casual beer on the stand, but this goes unexploited here, without the furniture or layout to make you feel particularly welcome doing that. A big oversight.

But onto the positives – great beer and very reliable consistent classic Czech cuisine – good portions too, enjoyed in what is a very typical hospoda environment of chunky long tables, wood panelled walls and communal seating, although this is supplemented by a mini-museum of old radios and wirelesses, adding to the places character.

The pub’s name “At the Squirrels” references the horse chestnut trees that line this particular area of Dejvice.

If you’re looking for a pub lunch or gregarious atmosphere post-dinner beers, along with super consistent beer, this is a significant one to note down.
