A Pilsner Urquell pub where everything is religiously around the condition and tapping of the nectar. Traditional Czech back bar options.

Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Deliberately traditional in character, a one-room Hospoda set on a corner with chunky wooden tables, yellow walls and First Republic influenced detailing.

Character

A pub that is in its infancy, still searching for its core audience and developing a cast of regulars. The concept is deliberately aimed to be like the well-known U Blahovky, and there is potential there.

Value For Money❤️❤️❤️
Within the expected bracket for the wares but not particularly cheap for this district of Prague.
DescriptionThe success of U Blahovky becoming a cult pub with near national status in Czechia has inspired other operations to create other similar operations. Deliberately marketed as a ‘traditional tap’, this and sister pub U Vodicku are social and drinks focused, meaning while they do serve food, the emphasis is on neighbourhood social life.

Of the three mentioned above, this one is still bedding in, but has plenty of potential. Purposefully retro in a First Republic style, there is genteel detail in an otherwise minimalist setup with chunky tables and a knajpa feel around the bar. It reminded us quite a lot of the ‘Fish Restaurant’ pubs in Helsinki that cover off a number of bases well, but definitely require custom to prop up a slight shortfall in natural atmosphere.

The Pilsner Urquell is treated as religiously as those places too, and this can be relied upon for that.

It will be interesting to return at different times and in the years to come to see if it has fulfilled its potential. In the meantime, if you are seeking to go somewhere off the normal trail of Brno-stred/Veveri/Kralovo-Pole this will fit the bill.
