Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A range of beers from small independent Czech brewers and fridge for alternatives, including PET bottles. Decent but stripped back array of alternatives.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Classic half-step basement hospoda, simply but warmly furnished with chunky tables. A series of nooks. Looks relatively new so potential for it to be personalised and gain character.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Looks relatively new so potential for it to be personalised and gain character, but the atmosphere is pleasant and convivial, neighbourly with a hint of city flavour to it, which reflects its position geographically. Popular with 20s through to 40 somethings.
Amenities/
Events
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Czech pub food, snacks, TV, takeouts, limited outdoor seating
Value For Money❤️❤️❤️
Fair value but relatively on par with the going rate.
DescriptionTwo visits was enough to firmly include U Čolka as a guide entry. Out in the district of Žabovřesky and among a street which is fast becoming a competitor to the likes of Traubka, Veveri, Lidicka and the city centre for nightlife.

Tábor street boasts 4 pubs, which are mostly going after a similar audience of young post-grads up to 40-somethings into new beers from small independent Czech brewers, and in the evening it becomes a lively spot. In typical Czech fashion this is set in a half-step basement with the street semi-viewable from the windows.

Inside is totally social-focused with a series of niches and nooks, all simply furnished. It’s a place to hang out with friends first and foremost, but check out the tap options and fridge and you’ll find a good range of beer from independent Czech brewers. There’s seating out front and a TV if you fancy whiling away the hours that way.

Being where it is, you won’t find many, if any tourists or ex-pats in the place, yet it does feel relevant and while not the height of cosmopolitan, a friendly adjacent acquaintance to it.
