Description:
A pub that had been on my to-do list for a while, located within easy reach of Kobylisy metro. However, as you head north after exiting the station, the urban intersection noise and bustle quickly dissipates and you enter a quieter neighbourhood.

I had expected a Pilsner Urquell Original Restaurant type format – solid, somewhat generic but in an effective style. Instead while certainly full of tropes of the Czech Hospoda genre, it isn’t uniform or cookie-cutter and has a pleasant rustic nature, almost touches of a rural Inn or a first republic style Knajpa.

There are two rooms, the best of which is the bar room as you enter – unfortunately, being a popular pub most of the tables are reserved for stamgasti- locals. The pub room to the right is open plan and has a hint of U Veverky in Dejvice about it. The typical wainscoting wood panelled walls and large communal tables. After lunch service it turns into a social meeting point primarily – one without hype and without tourists, so somewhere you can find local life and experience the rhythms of Czech life in situ.

Service is from a classic tapster/server duo who are gruff in their own way but well meaning – I was welcomed and treated as anyone else.

Good prices are available here too – a notch below what you’d expect to pay in the city centre – 10-15% less in, fact.

Given it is in such easy reach don’t think twice about giving it a try, along with a few other Kobylisy pubs which make a journey out here worthwhile.
