| Description | A late 19th century station hotel that has been well-preserved with some striking heritage features, from the mosaic floor on entry, to its tiled walls and preserved stained glass. The present-day function is as a cask ale boozer with the signature Bass pump proudly displayed and several changing guest ales. Basic pub grub, jukebox and sport on TV provides enough reason to linger whether quiet or busy. Somewhat of an institution. While the overall effect is very good rather than spectacular, you can’t look past it on your visit to Wigan. (Added October 2023) |
