| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️ Sam Smiths range of drinks, 1 handpulled cask ale, some interesting fruit beers and old fashioned options, poor lager options. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Stone building around a 15th century timber frame hall. Baronial feel inside with high ceilings, 16th century plaster ceiling and exposed timbers, communal seating around the sides. A second floor with fully exposed timber rafters. One of only 4 of its kind in Yorkshire. Worth visiting for alone. |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️ A quiet, but comfortable and cosy place that could use some low key background ambience to set a tempo when it’s lacking customers. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Meals, snacks, outdoor seating, darts, dominoes |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Fair value with some budget options, particularly the £3 cask ale Old Brewery Bitter. |
| Description | A bittersweet feeling that Sam Smiths run this pub. The incredible venue is well-preserved and maintained due to the money poured in, but could benefit from some concessions towards the present day to help kick it into life. A 15th century timber frame hall which has since been converted into a stone building, its interior is astonishing, easily worth the trip to Heckmondwike alone. Formerly inhabited by discoverer of oxygen Joseph Priestley in a reputedly haunted (read: old) location. With friendly service, darts and dominoes, cooked meals and outdoor seating in summer, there are plenty of reasons to visit in spite of the backwards policies of its owner.
