Not its strong suit, a fairly perfunctory range of familiar brands.

Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very appealing bawdy decor in this tiny backstreet pub down an alleyway with its red wallpaper, lamplight and theatre heritage hung on the walls. Grade II listed.

Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very much keeping the spirit of the place alive, enter via an alleyway to be transported to olde London Town with its salacious theatre scene. You can easily imagine the gossip and clandestine activities that took place here. However these days it isn’t merely a museum, it feels relevant and vibrant

DescriptionYet another heritage pub threatened by property developers, The Nell Gwynne, built on the site of the famous Old Bull survived the attempt in 2016 to remove our cultural heritage so some already obscenely rich person could make more money. Grade II listed and named after Charles II’s notorious mistress, this pub will transport you to the heady days of Victorian theatre-land. A small pub with bawdy lighting, oak shelving, fireplace and lamps, you’ll find it tucked down a flagstone alleyway directly off the strand. The interior comes into its own in the evening but has a certain youthful energy during the afternoon too with a free jukebox and lively staff keeping the rhythm going. Although drinks are limited here, they play only a supporting role to what is an experience pub. (Added September 2023)
