Choice/
Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️
Traditional English cask ale selection but well kept and reliable. Largely perfunctory alternatives.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A ‘corner pub’. From its eye-catching exterior with (defunct) Truman’s Brewery signage to the upholstered interior of soft fabrics, carpet and communal bench seating. There is also lounge room behind the bar as you enter.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️
During the day the typical horse/dog racing on TV, grumpy Landlady exchanging banter and regulars dipping in and out and a terrace area on warmer days where a younger crowd congregate.
Amenities/
Events
❤️❤️❤️
TV, Darts, English pub grub, snacks, books, outdoor seating
Value For Money❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very reasonably priced for ales considering what can be paid around London.
DescriptionA gem of a backstreet corner boozer from the external Truman tilework to inside traditional decor with wooden half panelled walls throughout, upholstered communal seating and curtains over the doors. An Edwardian pub kept in the same family for over 60 years until 2020. It’s a real step back in time, so if you’re keen to show someone a real London boozer rather than the chain owned mediocrity they are normally funnelled to, this is a prime candidate. During the day the typical horse/dog racing on TV, grumpy Landlady exchanging banter and regulars dipping in and out, with traditional cask hand-pulled ales served in good condition, and a terrace area in the summer where a younger crowd congregate. A stalwart, a vital, hopefully permanent fixture in Borough. (Added September 2023)
