Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Decent range of drinks on show from the typical old fashioned ‘heavies’ to ales from independent Scottish brewers. The back bar menu refers to soft drinks as ‘Minerals’, another 60’s reference. Back bar options are stripped back – don’t expect a treasure trove of single malts.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A large exterior leads in to a pub with more cramped space than you’d expect. It’s a deliberately preserved space. They aren’t preserving ornate craftsmanship or listed fittings, but a space that has served the public well since the 1960s. A long ground floor space leads to a 2nd bar room, while upstairs there’s a lounge.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A terrific social scene – warm and friendly, shared space and communal socialising with genuinely mixed crowd.
Amenities/
Events
❤️❤️❤️
Function room, live music upstairs, beer garden, snacks
Value For Money❤️❤️❤️
Not cheap but neither is it remarkably expensive.
DescriptionOpened in 1962, there’s no surprise then the Doublet’s nostalgic bar/lounge split and social scene is more than a little reminiscent of  the slightly more famous Southside boozer The Laurieston, from a similar era.

It was kept in the same ownership for decades until a sale in 2015, but that has not resulted in major changes to the relief of a loyal audience.

At first glance it may not seem all that. There’s an old fashioned neon sign outside, and mock Tudor interior – two bar rooms (and bars) downstairs with an upstairs lounge. But give yourself time to survey the surroundings, the atmosphere and the environment. What is mainly apparent is a warmth and sense of welcome, conviviality, bonhomie, all of that.

Head to the bar and you’ll find a decent range of drinks on show from the typical old fashioned ‘heavies’ to ales from independent Scottish  brewers. The back bar menu refers to soft drinks as ‘Minerals’, another 60’s reference.

The Doublet is up there with the best Glasgow pubs to try if you’re keen to explore somewhere that hasn’t been gutted for a soulless refit, and offers the most authentic, least pretentious kind of experience without the rough and ready aspects that could in the past be accompanied by that.
