| Choice/ Quality of Drinks | ❤️❤️❤️ Sam Smiths normal drinks range including the cask bitter. |
| Style/ Décor | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A beautiful unspoilt downstairs with wood fittings, stained glass and dartboard. Clearly opened out at some stage, but there remains a enjoyably ur-typical London boozer appearance |
| Atmosphere/ Character | ❤️❤️❤️❤️ It has its own charm at quieter times, dust motes in the gloom, and so on, but as you’d expect, busier occasions are where the utility comes alive. |
| Amenities/ Events | ❤️❤️❤️ Darts, meals, snacks |
| Value For Money | ❤️❤️❤️ No longer a bastion of great value, Sam Smiths ramped up their prices and then some quite a while ago now, however the food is reasonable by London’s standards. |
| Description | A historic venue rebuilt in 1896, Karl Marx attended meetings of the Communist Club here in the mid-1870s. Two floors with bar room on the ground and Edwardian era dining room upstairs, the ground floor boozer is a well-preserved classic traditional boozer with ample space for drinking on the stand/leaning and a dart board. Sam Smiths owned, less of a problem in the south with the mobile phones and swearing rules (and signage) nowhere to be seen, however it is not the great value operation it used to be. Nevertheless, with Old Brewery Bitter on cask, this is a worthwhile stop if in the area, a corner of London where Sam Smiths have several similar bars. (Added May 2023) |
