Quality of Drinks
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A clearly superior range of beers with strong cask and keg options from smaller independent Scottish brewers, and the odd North East English brewer featuring too. The usual good selection of whiskies.
Style/
Décor
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A curved frontage at a junction makes the Blazer stand out as you approach, which continues on entrance, met by a tiled floor with the ‘school blazer’ emblem and blue walls adjacent to the bar. The main bar room is open plan but an unusual shell shape, while the rear room is characterful in itself with a homely feel and upholstered bench seating.
Atmosphere/
Character
❤️❤️❤️❤️
A convivial city tavern without the hustle of Bow Bar or the tourists of The Oxford Bar, instead somewhere you’d find on the fringes of suburbs in English cities. Slightly upscale which may be why.
Amenities/
Events
❤️❤️❤️
Books, board games, snacks, live events
Value For Money❤️❤️
On the high side for central Edinburgh.
DescriptionEdinburgh’s beer selection can be repetitive as you explore its pubs, so fans of smaller, local independent output will rejoice at the Blue Blazer. Named after a local school uniform, the emblem features as you enter and the colour scheme at the back. After that, there’s a traditional pub layout with a shell shaped bar room and snug second room to the rear.

The beer selection is among the strongest in the city centre on cask and keg, with good whiskies too – but you do pay for this privilege, sadly.

With books, board games and live events, this feels more versatile and a comfortable ‘hangout spot’ rather than a destination, which provides a nice variety vs. the touristy venues. Well worth checking out.
