Description:
Open since 1937, Tabanco San Pablo, as with La Pandilla leaves a trace of civil war Spain. Its supremely rustic interior with sloping roof in the manner of a sherry Bodega is open plan and has the dimensions of a restaurant rather than a bar. Don’t be fooled, however, as this tavern is as casual as it comes. Pubby and tavern-like above any fine dining pretensions.

Offering 11 sherries/fortified wines by the barrel, an evening here can act as a primer for the Jerez sherry scene. Take your preferred seat and enjoy the scene – huge barrels, bullfighting posters and locals savouring sherry, tapas and engaged in conversation. All year round there is a pleasant hubbub.

Prices are fair and as with all tapas places they are known for certain dishes – pork cheek, chicharrones, cuttlefish meatballs and montaditos – which vary from pintxos style capapés to decent sized half-sandwiches. It probably can’t compete with Las Bandarillas for quality overall, but as a venue there is far more to look at, and the interior radiates character and atmosphere.

It is certainly in our preferred places in Jerez.
