Description:
Jerez’s traditional tapas bars offer a variety and format that is more diverse than may meet the eye. Some like El Pasaje have a music focus, others like San Pablo and Pandilla offer a glimpse of Sherry producing culture and a preserved interior. Las Banderillas represents the social scene and a food focus. One of the most popular spots in Jerez, if you don’t turn up promptly at opening you may find yourself poking around to find a seat. In typical Spanish fashion there’s a clinch at the bar, but there is casual seating too – be prepared to share space with strangers!

The interior has more of a 1980s ish feel with the traditional Jerez emblems – sherry, bullfighting etc imported to an otherwise modern space.

The Banderillas refers to the decorated darts which bullfighters use to demonstrate a successful attack – yes, there’s no getting away from the animal torture in Andalusia so don’t single them out.

The food is impressive here with popular dishes like shrimp fritters flying out of the kitchen and a good range of wines and sherries. Beer is, as usual, Cruzcampo and good for nothing except cooling down from the heat and slugging down food with.

Service is nothing less than efficient, willing and hard working, so no surprise they have a core audience.

The tapas bar may make those of a nervous disposition anxious as you’re invited to order before you have any idea what anything is, but at least here they provide English menus.
