Description:
Think of Europe’s famous nightlife districts. The Reeperbahn. Soho. Kazimierz. District VII. Navigli. They trip off the tongue. Wojciecha Bogusławskiego in the city of Wrocław, Poland? Not so much! On the lead-in eastwards into the main station, Wrocław Główny, locomotives travel along a lengthy viaduct that runs parallel to Wojciecha Bogusławskiego street. It is under those arches that you’ll find 30+ bars and restaurants stretching on and on west of the station. in the 1990s after the end of the PRL-era, alongside the usual vice-adjacent businesses, bars began to spring up. Most of those originals are today gone, but there are traces of the era: sex shops remain and old stagers like Pociąg from 2004, the tail end of that era. Swing Bar followed not long behind and adopts a similar style.

Today as you enter there’s a palpable sense of its relative fixture and age, in a good way. The décor belongs to the era where antiquey, jazzy, faintly sleazy and sometimes surrealist bars were becoming all the rage.

Heavy curtains, strategic shaded lamps, Jazz artwork festooned on the walls. Colourful, funky and brooding, as you enter it feels like you’ve left the outside world behind a little.

As with many of the viaduct bars there’s Czech lager and Polish craft to choose from at the going rate, along with typical late bar offerings prepared at a compact corner bar at the far end of the room. A tap from Stu Mostów is a standout.

Swing Bar is one of the best bars along this strip and not to be missed in the evenings.
