Description:
St. Arnoldus is a pub/estaminest/beer garden on Menenstraat, Ypres busiest thoroughfare which leads west to the Grote Markt. Commercially it is in prime position for footfall and passing trade due to the visitors who pay their respects at the war memorial then swiftly move on to the other aspect West Flanders is known for – brewing. Similarly, because it is so close to adjacent businesses – souvenir shops, restaurants, cafés et al.

You’d never guess inside that the venue extends around 100 metres from entrance to the end of the beer garden – a long narrow venue, decorated with some rather hokey dress-up Monk corporate photography, but not entirely po-faced at least.

The inside is competent and fairly tasteful rather than notable, however paired with the large beer garden it holds its own.

A long room fits a long bar, and here you’ll find an impressive roster of keg beers with more in the fridge. The house St Arnoldus beers are pleasant and well-poured here, and on a summers day you could do a lot worse than choose this pub to place your hat down. Or at least that would apply if Ypres had more than about 10 pubs in total.

All the same, we can recommend it. (Added October 2026)
