|Description||Another fantastic bar in the Plac Nowy area of Kazimierz district, the sheer wealth of options including some of the best bars in the world may have the result of making some of the others look like stylish wallpaper in comparison.|
It was therefore not until several visits to Kazimierz until we chose to visit Singer, a bar located on a street corner, with some café style furniture outside that always looked like a reasonable choice but for reasons that become obvious just by looking around, inessential.
Yet Singer can claim to be one of the first on the scene, offering the now well established style of antique furnishings, faded history and obsession with nik-naks and ephemera, building the sort of brooding candlelit atmosphere that more or less defines a night out in Kazimierz.
Singer comes alive when you walk inside, as the bar’s concept hits you from all angles. Preserved fixtures and fittings, old fashioned décor, carpeted floor, stylish furniture and each table featuring a classic Singer sewing machine with the foot operated spindle underneath.
Furthermore, the strength of the bar is in its ability to adapt from snoozy decorous café by day, to dusky evening venue and onto raucous partying by night (very late night).
The service is adequate with a traditionally fierce all-female outfit, and the beer options peak at Pilsner Urquell Ksiasece, which has always been the better of the mainstream selection, very pleasant without being superb. The prices are fair; will neither delight nor offend.
It’s all about the venue and atmosphere itself.
Choose your moment to visit to suit your mood, and Singer will fit in nicely to your plans. If you fail to do this you may find that you only take on a glimmer of this bar’s potential. (added 2018)
